Sun Shadow

Spring—Summer 2021

Designer's notes

Sun Shadow, a reflection of life in Kilifi. There is an essence of adventure that permeates in every action here. One cannot help but be present and soak up the zealous buzz of life in our little slice of paradise that we get to call home, here on the East African coast. This collection is about that. A conscious range of free flowing silhouettes, tapered cuffs and gathered yokes with a delightful sense of elegance.

The collection uses a variety of Linens, unbleached organic cotton and locally sourced Dhow sail material. For this collection we collaborated with natural dyers in Nairobi who only use ingredients provided by nature. Each garment will be unique in its own special way.

This collection is made in rural Kenya by local artisans at the Mitumba Arts workshop in Nanyuki. The workshop consists of 10 artisans working closely together, mostly creating items made from second-hand clothes. All the profits are collectively shared between the artists consisting of tailors, upholsters, hand beaders and painters. We are committed to equality and fairness in the workplace. We pay not just living wages, but decent wages, have interest in the livelihoods of our employees and always strive to create a comfortable and supportive working environment.
